The cardinals did not fare as well as the robins. After weeks of building a nest and laying two eggs, only one hatched. The little chick was covered in downy feathers by the end of the first week. We saw the male watching over his family, and frequently heard him calling to his mate. I've not seen the chick since it fledged several weeks ago.
