Back Yard Nesters

Our back yard is full of birds. Lately the squirrels have been getting into the bird feeder, so we are seeing fewer titmice and chickadees, but the robins and cardinals abound. This year we had two visible nests where the whole family could enjoy seeing eggs and baby birds.

Our ronbin's nest was in a pine tree on the back deck. We had four bright blue eggs that turned into hungry, noisy chicks. We watched the mother and father birds tirelessly feed their young for about two weeks before they fledged. This is a postcard sized portrait of commercial cotton fabrics on a piece I hand painted. The edging is angelina fiber fused to watercolor paper.
