The estuaries and marshes of the Connecticut shoreline are such a beautiful sight. Depending on the season, they are a wash of greens and golds, full of swallows, blackbirds or herons. This time of year, the sun has bleached out the dead grasses, and everything in the marsh is waiting for the warmer weather. One of my favorite places to walk is in Hammonasset State Park, where there are several vantage points that overlook marshes. I've been doing some research on the flora and fauna found in our local marshes, and you will be seeing some similarities between the plants and the shapes I am using in this quilt.
Nothing boosts creativity like a deadline: my plan is to have the top of this quilt pieced by Friday or Saturday, and quilt a wind pattern over the reeds and rushes. This quilt will join its sister, Farmlands, as the second in a series of Connecticut Landscape Quilts commissioned for a public venue in New Haven. The photo highlights some of the work completed today.
