Blogger's Quilt Festival

This festival, I'm sharing a quilt I've posted before called Farmlands.  It was commissioned by Smilow Hospital at the Yale New Haven Medical Center early this year to hang in their ICU wing.  You can read about its making and conception on earlier posts if you are interested (click here for more info).  I loved making this piece - the intense hours spent pouring over its design and construction were a way that I connected back to my childhood and upbringing.  I felt close to my father and grandparents who farmed our property, close to my ancestors whose life was connected to the plowing of land and building of walls, and close to my heritage of cultivation.   The threads of quilts are woven like memories through many layers, and each one tells its own story.  That is what I love about quilting.

Oh! It's much bigger than I imagined from the photo. I love all the greens and the way you used the lighter shades for dimension. Wonderful. Thanks for sharing your quilt's story :)
