Studio Tour

Technical (modem) difficulties this morning kept me from posting earlier, but here is a quick tour of my studio:
Last winter I moved everything out of my basement laundry room, including the enormous washer/dryer, and converted this 120 sf space into a designated studio. The laundry sink doubles as waste water pump for the machine which has been relocated to behind the wall as well as a quick wash up space for paint brushes and dye covered hands. I painted the walls a pale yellow and put up an 8 foot design wall so I could better view my works in progress. The back wall contains a bookshelf with very few books - mostly mixed media supplies and my most frequently used tools and fabrics. Although there is no natural light, I spent all of my studio budget on lighting and electrical upgrades so I can see what I am doing... it's a necessity to have a "well lit" room of one's own.
What you can't see in these photos is the fabric collection: mounds, no, mountains of fabrics are in a back room in my basement, along with two large cutting tables, my husbands tool bench, the extra range which I use only at Thanksgiving and for canning tomatoes, and about a million spiders.
PS: The hanging over my machine is a painted African textile and the three small quilts over the telephone are Karen Loprete's!

I, too, love the pretty yellow you have. Great idea to repurpose a laundry room. Thanks so much for the tour!

The yellow is awesome! I just moved my studio *out* of my laundry room so I could move one of my kids in there... they're tired of sharing a room! LOL

Your room looks great. I spent a lot on lighting, too. It's a necessity when you have a basement studio.

HI! My Studio is in the basement as well and I had to put another little window in, so I can give classes here in Germany....rules and laws!
Anyway I love your artwork and enjoy your creative time! I know what it means to balance with art. I have three kids myself....so enjoy whenever it's possible!
Smiles, Anke ;)

Thank you, everyone for the kind comments on my blog. I didn't have all of your emails to respond personally, but it is always wonderful to have positive feedback. Let's keep the creative spirit moving... and keep making art!

The lighting is really, really good; those natural light fixtures are a necessity everywhere except my sun room and even then in the evening hours.
Great tour and like the soft yellow; it makes the room so warm and inviting.

Sorry for being so late, I'm on LTD and just couldn't make it through the tour in one weekend.

I too appreciate the yellow paint job! there's a sunny day feel to it. and I would LOVE to have a dedicated design wall. How fortunate you are. Blessings
